Sensei Dario Chircop started Karate in 1982, at the age of 16 in Malta, with Sensei Jack (‘Ino’) Grech. He was awarded Shodan (1st Black belt) by Shirai Sensei in 1993 in Italy (Fikta/ WSI) and then graded with Kawazoe Sensei (then ITKF) up to Sandan (3rd Black belt).
Under the mentorship of Sensei Roy Tomlin (UK), he was appointed as the sole Maltese representative for the Japan Karate Association in 2000 by the late Keinosuke Enoeda Sensei, and graded with JKA ever since. He has achieved Godan (5th Dan JKA) ranking in 2016 by Ueki Shuseki Shihan, Osaka Sensei and Ohta Sensei.
Sensei Dario Chircop is one of the most senior karate instructors still practicing in Malta, as he travels throughout Europe and Japan to improve his Karate knowledge. He opened his first club in 1993, marking 29 years of teaching experience this year.
In 2001 the late Sensei Enoeda, who then was the Chief Instructor of JKA in Europe, appointed Sensei Dario Chircop as the representative for the Japan Karate Association within the Maltese Islands. Henceforth, JKA-Malta was established with Dario as the Chief Instructor and Sensei Roy Tomlin as the Technical Director for this new association.
Today Chief Instructor of Japan Karate Association Malta, Sensei Dario Chircop has competed, coached and judged in top class events such as Europeans and World Championships. Together with the strong effort (and the innate quality) of his devoted students, he was able to lead the JKA-Malta National Team to important podiums internationally.
Sensei Dario Chircop is the present President and Chief Instructor for JKA Malta. He is currently internationally qualified by the JKA in Tokyo as B license Instructor, B license Judge and C license Examiner.
